Local sisters raise money to help animals

The Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary in Washburn recently received a donation of $174.53 from two sisters from Stella. The girls raised the money from a bake sale, but instead of standing outside somewhere and asking people to buy their wares, they had an event and exchanged their culinary creations for donations from guests at their grandparents' 25th wedding anniversary. The girls said it felt really cool to do things to help the animals. Some of the items they made, with the help of grandmother Holly Bradley, were cinnamon hard candy, pumpkin and banana-nut bread, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate coffee caramels.
