Southwest Missouri native began duties April 22

Julia Kilmer of Exeter began her duties as reporter for the Cassville Democrat on April 22.

A southwest Missouri native, Kilmer recently moved to Exeter from Springfield. She is a graduate of College of the Ozarks and Ozarks Technical Community College and previously worked as a reporter for the Lawrence County Record and the Branson Daily News, as an entertainment writer reviewing shows. She has also freelanced for various publications and entertainers.

In Springfield, Kilmer worked in the medical field, as a tutor in study skills and memory techniques for Ozarks Technical Community College, and for the Missouri Career Center, setting up business partnerships with employers and work sites for at-risk youth. She has also traveled extensively overseas as an exchange student and military flight attendant.

"I am excited to get out into the community, get to know everyone, and share what's happening in the community through the Cassville Democrat," she said. "I welcome residents to contact me with stories, news and events."

The appointment was made by Cassville Democrat Editor

Kyle Troutman.

"Julia has a strong reporting background and is excited to make her mark in Cassville," he said. "We are happy to have her working at the Democrat, and I am confident she will do a great job."

Kilmer enjoys community relations, writing, marketing, business, legal advocacy for parents and children, postpartum issues, flowers, nutrition, classic cars and spending time with her family.

Kilmer replaces Jason Johnston, whose last day was April 21.

She can be reached by email at, or by phone at 417-847-2610.
