Concealed carry course set for May 2
The Southwest Agriculture Department will be hosting a concealed carry course on May 2 beginning at 8 a.m. Class will be held at the Southwest Agriculture Department, with live rounds off campus. Price will be up to $100, as it is based on the number of people that sign up, and will have to be paid before the class. Those taking the class will need at least 50 rounds of ammunition for the handgun they choose to bring. To sign up or for questions, people may contact Rachael Brown at 417-388-1959. End-of-course testing scheduled at Cassville High School
The end-of-course testing schedule has been set for Cassville High School. Testing begins on April 27 and ends to May 5. Students in eighth grade who are taking Algebra I will be tested on May 4. If a student has an appointment during one of these days and it can be rescheduled, parents should try to do so. Parents should also make sure their students gets plenty of rest the night before the test and have good breakfasts on the mornings of test days. The 11th-grade mandatory ACT will be given on April 28. There will be no EOC testing on this day. Juniors will need to bring calculators if they have them. They may bring a small snack to eat during break if they would like to. The free text for juniors will include the writing portion of the ACT.
Southwest hosting preschool screenings
The Southwest school district will host pre-K and kindergarten registration and screenings throughout the week of April 27. Pre-K screening will be for any child 3-5 years old by the first day of school, however, not all 3-year-old children will qualify. All 4-and-5-year-olds will be eligible to attend. For kindergarten, students must be 5 years old before Aug. 1. To schedule a time, people may contact the elementary school office at 417-826-5411. Parents or guardians will need to bring in proof of residency, shot records, and a birth certificate for each child.
Wheaton hosting kindergarten screenings
Wheaton Elementary School is hosting kindergarten screenings for the 2015-2016 school year. Those who have a child or know a child who is, or will be, three years old by July 31, should call Mrs. Roller at 417-652-7240 (ext. 842) to schedule an appointment for screening. The Dial 3 will be used for the screening. Please allow approximately one hour for the screening process. If a child is not already in Wheaton's preschool program, parents or guardians should bring child's birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record and proof of residency. Enrollment packets for next year will be given out during the screening. Parents or guardians should make sure the packet is completed in full and left in the child's folder before they leave.
Seligman Chamber hosting concert in May
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce will host a Barbara Fairchild concert on May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Seligman Chamber Event Center, located on Highway 37. Tickets are $15 each or $18 at the door. The opening band will be Three Hits and a Miss, and Fairhchild and her husband, Roy Morris, will perform country and gospel music. Tickets may be purchased at Seligman Auto Parts, People's Community Bank, Freedom Bank, Ruby's, the Seligman Super Stop, Tom's Flea Market and Crazy Mule in Washburn. Judy Holt and Diane Vigil are also selling tickets, along with the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce, Security Bank, Sater's Pharmacy, Michael's Hardware and Arvest Bank in Pea Ridge, Ark. Women's Golf Association hosting breakfast on Thursday
The Cassville Women's Golf Kick-Off Breakfast will be held in the members room at the Cassville Golf Course Clubhouse on April 16 at 9 a.m. A scramble will start off the groups official day's play, following the breakfast and meeting. All lady golfers are welcome to attend and join the group, which has players of all ability levels who each enjoy the game of golf.
