Bridge replacement to cause closure

The Barry County Commission is replacing a box culvert on Farm Road 1135 between Farm Road 2175 and 2180, beginning today (Wednesday). The road will be closed to through traffic for approximately 30 days.

Southwest hosting preschool screenings

The Southwest school district will host pre-K and kindergarten registration/screening throughout the week of April 27. Pre-K screening will be for any child 3-5 years old by the first day of school, however, not all 3-year-old children will qualify. All 4-and-5-year-olds will be eligible to attend. For kindergarten, students must be 5 years old before Aug. 1. To schedule a time, people may contact the elementary school office at 417-826-5411. Parents or guardians will need to bring in proof of residency, shot records, and a birth certificate for each child.

Barry Electric Annual Meeting set for Thursday

The Barry Electric Cooperative's 68th Annual Meeting will begin at noon on April 9 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 5th and West streets in Cassville. Registration begins at noon and the meeting will be called to order at 1 p.m. Members may bring their registration cards, which are on the outside covers of their April issues of the Rural Missourian. Each member in attendance will receive a $10 discount on his or her May electric bill.

Wheaton hosting kindergarten screenings

Wheaton Elementary School is hosting kindergarten screenings for the 2015-2016 school year. Those who have a child or know a child who is, or will be, three years old by July 31, should call Mrs. Roller at 417-652-7240 (ext. 842) to schedule an appointment for screening. The Dial 3 will be used for the screening. Please allow approximately one hour for the screening process. If a child is not already in Wheaton's preschool program, parents or guardians should bring child's birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record and proof of residency. Enrollment packets for next year will be given out during the screening. Parents or guardians should make sure the packet is completed in full and left in the child's folder before they leave.

Seligman Chamber hosting concert in May

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce will host a Barbara Fairchild concert on May 2 at 7 p.m. at the Seligman Chamber Event Center, located on Highway 37. Tickets are $15 each or $18 at the door. The opening band will be Three Hits and a Miss, and Fairhchild and her husband, Roy Morris, will perform country and gospel music. Tickets may be purchased at Seligman Auto Parts, People's Community Bank, Freedom Bank, Ruby's, the Seligman Super Stop, Tom's Flea Market and Crazy Mule in Washburn. Judy Holt and Diane Vigil are also selling tickets, along with the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce, Security Bank, Sater's Pharmacy, Michael's Hardware and Arvest Bank in Pea Ridge, Ark. Scott Tech hosting class soon

The Scott Tech Regional Technology Center in Monett will host a Craft Night, where flip flop door hangers will be built, on Monday and Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. both nights. The cost is $20 per person, and attendees should bring specific paint colors for the hanger. People may register for the class at Scott Tech, or online at, by Monday.

Barry County 4-H hosting benefit

The Barry County 4-H program will host the Clovers of Success Scholarship Benefit dinner, with live and silent auctions, on Friday at 6 p.m. The event, which costs $12 per person, will be held at the Crowder College Cassville Community Building. Proceeds from the event will be awarded to 4-H youth in the form of scholarships to attend regional, state and national events. For more information, people may contact Anna Klem at 417-847-3161.

Women's Golf Association hosting breakfast

The Cassville Women's Golf Kick-Off Breakfast will be held in the members room at the Cassville Golf Course Clubhouse on April 16 at 9 a.m. A scramble will start off the groups official day's play, following the breakfast and meeting. All lady golfers are welcome to attend and join the group, which has players of all ability levels who each enjoy the game of golf. Cassville to host electronic recycling event

Those wishing to dispose of electronics, medical and office equipment may do so on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. In partnership with U.S. Materials Management, a bin will be placed at these Cassville City Hall parking lot, on the corner of 3rd and West streets. Items to be accepted include: Laptops, desktop computers, medical equipment, I.T. equipment, cell phones, telephones, general equipment, batteries, printers, servers, copiers, hard drives, monitors, office equipment, computer parts, cables and cords.
