Saturday event is baseball team's only fundraiser

The Wildcat baseball team will hold its sixth annual 50-inning game on Saturday at Wildcat Field, beginning at 10 a.m.

"We are excited about this sixth annual 50-inning game," said Kyle Wood, Cassville coach. "It gives a chance to get our entire baseball family, [coaches, players and parents] together and enjoy a day of lighthearted play."

All Wildcat players, including freshmen, junior varsity and varsity, will be divided into five teams. The game will continue until 50 innings have been completed.

"The boys always enjoy finding out what team they are a part of, and there are always surprises on what teams will be the best," Wood said. "I enjoy watching our players take a leadership role throughout the day as they try to set up the best batting order and get everyone in the best position for their teams to be successful.

"I get to sit back, watch and enjoy the game of baseball."

Hot barbecue sandwich lunches with chips, a cookie and a drink will be offered throughout the day. Meals will cost $5 each. The concession stand will also be open during the event.

"We invite the community to come out and support the high school baseball team," Wood said. "All money raised goes directly back to the team for equipment needs."

The event will also feature a drawing for several baskets, gifts, and gift cards. Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six tickets can be purchased for $5. Individuals can also buy 15 tickets at a cost of $10.

Tickets for the drawing are being sold by Wood ahead of the game and at the game. Community members do not need to be present at the 50-inning game to win a prize.

All proceeds from the game will benefit the Cassville High School baseball team. This is the only fundraiser the team conducts each year.
