Silver Leaf chooses 2 sophomores for pilgrimage
Cassville, Exeter students go to Jefferson City April 14
The Silver Leaf Benefit Club of Cassville has announced its two area students for the annual General Federation of Women's Clubs Sophomore Pilgrimage to Jefferson City.
Sophomores Olivia Padilla and Dalton Horn will represent Cassville and Exeter High Schools, respectively, at the April 14 event.
They start out in the morning with guided walking tours comprised of small groups of other sophomores throughout the state, said Anne Angle, who coordinates the sophomore pilgrimage for Silver Leaf.
"They go through the Governor's Mansion," said Angle, who has been an active member in Silver Leaf for at least eight years. "They go through the Capitol. They have a luncheon, and that is when they get to meet with area representatives. They have opportunities to ask questions if they want."
Silver Leaf has a certain criteria for finding Cassville and Exeter sophomores for the pilgrimage, she said.
"We don't want it to be someone who has recently been to the capital with some other organization," Angle said. "We try and get someone who has not had the opportunity before. We want them to be in the upper echelon of their class ranking."
Silver Leaf does provide for the luncheon and a stipend, she said. The students can also bring their parents.
GFWC has nine districts in Missouri. Silver Leaf, which has been a part of the GFWC since October 1908, is in the Seventh District.
