Senior overcomes multiple setbacks to be a leader

For years, Cassville girls basketball Coach Chris Shore has sought tough players that would fight through adversity to help the team win, and four years ago, he inherited one such player in Raeghan Blisard.

Blisard, according to Shore, was the heart and soul of the Lady Wildcats. Her attitude, work ethic and determination set her apart from others.

On Monday, the Big 8 Conference honored its top female basketball players with the release of the all-conference basketball team. Blisard earned second team honors.

According to Shore, it was well deserved, especially when you consider all the adversity she overcame to play this season.

During her four-year career, Blisard endured and recovered from two ACL surgeries.

"It was really tough for her to make it back this season from her second ACL injury," Shore said. "She felt pressure to get back and was really under the gun time wise. She returned the third game of the season and immediately made our team better."

Shore said he was proud of her for being dedicated enough to come back and help the team.

"She was never at 100 percent this season," he said. "She never complained and never wanted sympathy. She even played the last three days of the season with a pulled hamstring and didn't tell anyone."

Shore added that Blisard's example of hard work is something that he is glad the other players got to see, and he hopes they will follow her lead.
