Cassville, Carthage to tangle in the first round of tourney

The Cassville boys basketball team opens play in the Class 4, District 12 tournament on Tuesday against a familiar foe in Carthage.

The two teams met on Dec. 19, with the Tigers scoring a 66-40 victory.

The rematch on Tuesday has far greater implications, as the losing team's season will come to an end.

McDonald County earned the No. 1 seed and Webb City the No. 2, and both teams earned a first -round bye in the six-team field.

Carthage picked up the No. 3 seed, followed by Carl Junction as the No. 4

Monett and Cassville were seeded Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Carl Junction and Monett kickoff the Class 4, District 12 tourney at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner advances to the semifinal on March 5 at 7 p.m. against McDonald County.

Carthage and Cassville compete in the nightcap of the opening round Tuesday. The winner plays Carl Junction on March 5 at 8:30 p.m.

The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m. on March 7.
