Purdy girls No. 1 seed
Lady Eagles ready for district tournament action
For the first time since its 2010 state championship run, the Purdy girls basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in the Class 2, District 12 tournament.
"I think the seed is a testament to how hard our girls worked this season," said Eli Ernst, Purdy coach. "Getting the seed is one thing, but we still have to take care of business."
The Lady Eagles (17-6) and their No. 1 seed begin play in the eight-team tournament on Monday at Pierce City.
Pierce City (15-7) is the No. 2 seed. Miller (14-9) was slotted as the No. 3 seed. Southwest (14-9) is the No. 4 seed. Sarcoxie (9-13) took the No. 5 seed, and McAuley (7-18) fell to the No. 6 seed.
College Heights (5-17) and Wheaton (3-20) round out the tourney field as the Nos. 7 and 8 seeds, respectively.
Purdy and Wheaton will open tournament play at 4 p.m. Monday in Pierce City, followed by Southwest and Sarcoxie. The winners advance to face each other in the semifinals at 6 p.m. on Feb. 25.
Pierce City and College Heights square off at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, immediately followed by Miller and Southwest. The winners will play in the second semifinal on Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m.
"We aren't looking past anyone in this tourney field," Ernst said. "Our main focus however, will be on control the things we can do and making sure we take care of those issue first."
The championship is scheduled for Feb. 27, at 6 p.m.
