Crowning of Mister Tip-Off, queen take place Friday

Purdy High School's Student Council has announced candidates for queen and Mister Tip-Off at the 2015 homecoming celebration this week.

The 2015 Mister Tip-Off will be crowned at a special assembly at 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 6. The 2015 homecoming queen and her court will be presented between the junior varsity boys and varsity boys basketball games against Southwest High School on Friday evening.

Freshman candidates are Layne Skiles, daughter of Bill and Sarah Skiles, and Jose Sanchez, son of Graciela Salas and Antonio Sanchez. Sophomore candidates are Hannah White, daughter of Shelley and Darren Prater and David and Val White, and James Hughlett, son of James and Holly Hughlett. Junior class candidates are Skylar Lakey, daughter of Debi Lakey, and Luis Cruz, son of Juan and Norma Cruz. This year's Senior candidates are Kailey Pettit, daughter of Gerri and Jeff Bell and Darrell and Cassandra Pettit, and Brayden Jones, son of Tim and Bobbi Jones.

Leading the royalty processional will be flower girl Kierstn Postlewait, daughter of Heath and Rachel Postlewait, and crown bearer Cyris Williams, son of Aaron Williams. Postlewait attends Beth Abramovitz's kindergarten class, and Williams is a member of Sarah Skiles's kindergarten class.

Special dress-up days are planned throughout the week, sponsored by the Student Council. Mustache Monday offered students a chance to buy stick-on mustaches for 50 cents to wear for the day. Twin Tuesday gave students an opportunity to dress up in pairs. Wednesday was set as Dress Up In Pink Day. Thursday will be Disney vs. Superhero Day, sharing competing heroes and heroines. Friday is Nerd vs. Jock Day.

The homecoming dance will be held at a later date, as ACT testing is scheduled for Saturday.

The dance will be delayed so students may get sufficient rest for the exam.
