Barry Electric warns of phone scam

Monday, January 26, 2015

According to Bill Shiveley, general manager and CEO of the Barry Electric Cooperative, said customers of the cooperative have been receiving phone calls from someone claiming to represent a collection agency and working for Barry Electric, saying if patrons do not pay their bills right away, their power will be disconnected.

Shiveley said Barry Electric does not use collection agencies and does not make calls demanding payments.

Shiveley said if anyone receives such a call, please try to get contact information and a call back number, then report the information to Barry Electric, the Barry County Sheriff's office or a local police department.
