Battle of the Eagles on Friday night

Purdy hosts Pierce City in varsity basketball action on Friday. The games could be a preview of the district championship host at Pierce City this year. The girls gam is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. immediately followed by the boys contest. Lady year, the Pierce City girls topped Purdy for the district title.

Southwest Middle School starts volleyball practice

Volleyball practice for Southwest Middle School begins Tuesday, according to Coach Steve Voyak. Practice is from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the middle school gym. The team is open to all seventh- and eighth-grade girls. All players need to have completed an athletic physical before participating. Southwest Project Graduation sponsors chili dinner, auction

Southwest Project Graduation will sponsor a chili dinner and auction fundraiser on Saturday in the high school commons area. Dinner is from 5-7 p.m., with the auction at 6:30 p.m. The cost $5 per plate.

Catch and release trout season underway

Missouri catch-and-release fishing is underway at Roaring River, Bennett Springs and Montauk state parks until Feb 9.

Fishing times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Monday.

Trout permits are required, and anglers are to use flies only as bait.
