Pair of candidates contest Seligman's west ward
Municipal election filings due Jan. 20 throughout Barry County
Two Seligman west ward alderman candidates will square off in the April 7 general municipal election.
Incumbent Eric Freeman and challenger Bob Hughes both filed last week for the two-year position.
Michael Avers also filed last week for a one-year west ward alderman opening.
After alderwoman Shirley Beaver died Dec. 6, the Missouri Municipal League recommended that Seligman put up Beaver's vacant west ward position on the official ballot as a one-year term.
Belva Stepp filed last week for mayor.
The other Incumbents whose terms end next year are Mayor Jerry Montgomery and Ron Corn, east ward alderman. Both positions are two-year terms.
Candidates can apply at the Seligman City Hall, located at 29144 Main St., by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015 with City Clerk Brian Nichols or Deputy Clerk Kari Short. Candidates must be at least 21 or older, reside within the city limits a year prior to applying and a year after being elected, be a qualified voter, not be in arrears for city taxes, not be delinquent in municipal user fees, and not have unpaid personal or real estate property taxes with Barry County. Each alderman candidate can only apply for the ward that he or she lives within.

The April election has the following two-year openings for city of Butterfield: west ward alderman and east ward alderman.
The incumbents whose terms end next year are Guadalupe Meza, west ward alderman, and Mark Thomas, east ward alderman.
By Jan. 20, 2015, candidates can apply at the Butterfield City Hall, 10601 N. Ash St. The city hall hours are 9 a.m.--noon and 1--5 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
All filings must be made in person. Each candidate must provide a picture ID and certify his or her qualifications for the openings to Tracy Anders, Butterfield city clerk, at the time of filing.

The April election has the following two-year openings for the city of Exeter: north ward alderman, south ward alderman and mayor.
The incumbents whose terms end next year are Mayor Rusty Reed; Jim Morse, north ward alderman; and Rhonda Scott, south ward alderwoman.
Qualified candidates must file with City Clerk Myrna Eisenbraun at the Exeter City Hall, 116 Front St., by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015.

The April election has the following two-year openings for the city of Purdy: ward one alderman, ward two alderman and mayor.
The incumbents whose terms end next year are Mayor Steve Roden; Robert Moser, ward one alderman; and Wayne Rupp, ward two alderman.
By Jan. 20, 2015, qualified candidates must file with City Clerk Debbie Redshaw at the Purdy City Hall, 101 Front St. The city hall hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The hours will extend to 5 p.m. on the last day of filing. City hall will be closed Dec. 21-28.
Each candidate cannot be in arrears for any unpaid city taxes or municipal user fees.

The April election has the following openings for the city of Washburn: mayor and three at-large aldermen.
One of the alderman openings has a one-year term, and the other openings have two-year terms.
The incumbents whose terms end next year are Mayor John Tiedeman, Alderman Jeremy Johnston and Alderwoman Mary Roller.
The third alderman position was left vacant after an alderman left the city limits and gave up the position, said Julie Grillone, Washburn city clerk.
"We were not able to find anybody to fill it," she said.
Qualified candidates can file with Grillone at the Washburn City Hall, 321 Main St., by 5 p.m. Jan. 20. Each applicant must provide a picture ID, address and proof of residency and a voter registration card. Every candidate is required to file an affidavit that he or she is not delinquent on state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes or real property taxes with the Missouri Department of Revenue. A copy of the affidavit must accompany the candidate's declaration of candidacy.
