School board candidates file for April election

Filing period ends Jan. 20 for all Barry County school districts

The Cassville Board of Education has two, three-year openings in the April 7 elections.

Incumbents John Sullivan and Carolyn Bowen filed last week with the Cassville School District.

Each board normally has seven members, said Richard Asbill, Cassville superintendent. He encourages every Cassville school board candidate to meet him and attend some board meetings, which are the first Thursdays after the 10th day of each month at 6 p.m.

Each Cassville candidate can file at the superintendent's office, 1501 Main St., from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The office will extend its hours until 5 p.m. Jan 20, 2015, which is the final day to file. The office is closed today through Jan. 2, 2015.

According to the Missouri School Boards' Association, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, a resident taxpayer of the district, a resident of Missouri within one year and at least 24 years old.

"Successfully elected board members are further required to complete 16 hours of orientation and training within one year of their election," according to the association.

Exeter, Purdy, Shell Knob, Southwest and Wheaton school districts also each have two, three-year board openings in the April elections.

The Exeter Board of Education incumbents whose terms end next year are Sammy Hudson and Mitch Sorensen.

Each candidate can apply at the Exeter superintendent's office, 101 Locust St., from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. The office will extend its hours until 5 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015, which is the final day to file. The office is closed today through Jan. 2, 2015.

Ken Terry and Randy Henderson, who are both Purdy Board of Education incumbents, filed last week.

Each candidate can file at the Purdy superintendent's office, 201 S. Gabby Gibbons Drive, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The office will extend its hours until 5 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015, which is the final day to file. The office is closed today through Jan. 5, 2015.

The Shell Knob Board of Education incumbents whose terms end next year are Bob Stewart and Jackie Backes.

Each candidate can file at the Shell Knob superintendent's office, located at 24400 Highway 39, with Brenda Smith, board secretary. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The office will extend its hours until 5 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015, which is the last day to file. The office is closed today through Jan. 6, 2015.

Danny Dalton, Southwest Board of Education incumbent, filed last week. Robert Catron is the other incumbent whose term ends next year.

Each candidate can file at the superintendent's office, located at 529 E. Pineville Road in Washburn, with Judy Brooks, board secretary. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The office will extend its hours until 5 p.m. Jan. 20, 2015, which is the last day to file. The office is closed today through Jan. 2, 2015.

Each candidate can file at the Wheaton central office, located at 116 McCall St. The hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. The office is closed today through Jan. 2, 2015.
