Southwest High School ready for holiday tourney
Boys action tips off on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
The 32nd Annual Southwest Holiday Tournament tips off on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with Blue Eye and Wheaton.
In recent years, the tournament has featured teams from Arkansas and Missouri. The eight-team field reflects this tradition again this season, with Pea Ridge, Haas Hall and Gentry from the Natural State.
"I think we have a deep and tough tournament this season," said Kenny Ferguson, Southwest athletic director. "We added Gentry and Blue Eye, and they end up getting the top two seeds."
Ferguson also noted that Haas Hall, who only won seven games all of last year, has already won six this season and is the No. 7 seed.
"I don't see any of these game being big blowouts," Ferguson said. "I think people are going to be entertained."
In addition to the boys bracket, there is also a girls tournament at Southwest this season, as the district is looking to grow the tournament field for each side.
Pea Ridge and Cassville are the set to play at 2:30 p.m., followed by Gentry and Haas Hall, and Southwest and Galena in the night cap.
Consolations, the semifinals are slated for Dec. 27, with the championship and third-place games on Dec. 29.
Games start at 12:30 each day.
Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students.
