Exeter races past Monett in tourney opener, 67-35
Walnut Grove -- The Exeter girls basketball team shook off the rust of a 9 a.m. start time to claim an opening round win over Monett, 67-35, on Saturday in the Walnut Grove Holiday Tournament.
The Lady Tigers spent most of the first period trying to shake off the early morning haze. They led 13-9 at the end of the first period and 26-15 at halftime.
The second half was a different story, Exeter capitalized on every Monett mistake and got to the free throw line 27 times to outscore the Lady Cubs 41-20 in the third and fourth quarters.

Scoring for Monett: Kailee Ticknor, 11; Lauren Brown,5; Sarah Childress, Katie Tinkelpaugh, Kourtney Easter and Maddy Brafford, 4 each; and Kaylee George, 3.
Exeter continues tourney action on Monday at 9 a.m. against No. 1 seed Walnut Grove.
