Store near Wheaton anticipates hiring 6 to 10 employees

Dollar General plans to open a new store just south of Wheaton on Highway 86 in early February, according to a company spokeswoman.

"We look for places where we offer customers an easy and convenient place to shop, where they can get cleaning products and non-perishable food items at a really low price every day," said Mary Kathryn Patterson, communications coordinator for Dollar General. "We also value being convenient because we typically don't want our customers to travel more than 10 minutes to get to our stores."

The new store will be about 7,300 square feet, and it will have six to 10 employees, Patterson said. Construction began Sept. 18.

The city of Wheaton welcomes the Dollar General store to the area, said Mayor

David Shockley.

"I am glad to have any kind of business," Shockley said.
