Ida "Ruth" (Granger) Higgs, 102, of Cassville passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014. She was born Feb. 20, 1912, near Simco, to Josie (Gailey) Granger and John Sanford Granger. She graduated from Joplin High School. She attended Northeastern State Teacher's College in Tahlequah, Okla., and taught school in Rocky Comfort. She also worked at Christmans (Macy's) Department Store in Joplin for 34 years.
On July 1, 1946, she married Larry "Red" Miller and they resided in Monett. After Larry's death, she attended Business College in Joplin. She married Chester "Buck" Higgs June 2, 1962, and together they ran a cattle farm near Wheaton. She worked at Fanning's Department Store in Cassville and stayed on when it became Smith's Department Store. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church near Wheaton where she was the church pianist.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; two brothers, Hubert and Virgil; her husband, Buck, as well as her stepson, Joe Higgs.
Survivors include: a sister, Ruby Mills and her husband, Con; a stepdaughter-in-law, Jackie Higgs; a stepdaughter, Betty Lamberson; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday at Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, with pastors, Charles Stults and Virgil Beck conducting the service. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter.
