Kansas, Colorado trio injured in wreck
Highway 112 wreck sends 3 to Joplin, Springfield hospitals
Three people were taken to hospitals in Joplin and Springfield Saturday after a wreck on Highway 112 at 12:10 p.m., seven miles south of Cassville.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Carl Handshy, 87, of Columbus, Kan., was driving a 1997 Ford Econoline Van southbound on Highway 112 when his vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, slid across the center line and struck a 2004 Dodge 2500 Pickup, being driven by Logan Tyler, 25, of Ouray, Colo.
Handshy and Tyler both suffered moderate injuries, and a passenger in the van, Wilma Handshy, 87, of Columbus, Kan., suffered minor injuries. Carl Handshy and Wilma Handshy, who were wearing safety devices, were transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Tyler, who was not wearing a safety device, was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
The Econoline Van suffered extensive damage, and the Dodge Pickup was totaled.
