Chamber welcomes parade entries
Deadline for entries is Dec. 1, parade will be on Dec. 6
The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce has started accepting entries for the local Christmas parade.
The deadline to enter the parade is Dec. 1, and the parade is Dec. 6.
Participants begin lining up at Cassville High School at 4 p.m., with the procession reaching Main Street at 6 p.m. The parade concludes on either Farm Road 2182 or Clover Street.
"The Christmas Parade is a lot of fun to coordinate," said Mindi Artherton, director of the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce. "It's something that we're able do for our community free of charge."
The parade averages 60 entries, and there is no charge to be a part of the parade, Artherton said. The parade has no theme, except for Christmas. The chamber requests that entries not include a live Santa, because he is at the end of the parade.
"We believe there is only one Santa Claus," she said.
Traveling trophies will be awarded to first-place winners in both the religious and commercial divisions. First-place trophies will be awarded to winners in the non-religious, marching band and horse drawn divisions. In the single-unit vehicle category, a trophy will be awarded to the best decorated, oldest and most unusual entries.
Bands are limited to three minutes in front of the judges at the Barry County Courthouse, Artherton said. Judging results will be posted at the chamber office between 30 and 45 minutes following the parade.
"We have three out-of-town judges," she said.
Participants cannot toss candy from vehicles, but they can have walkers hand out the candy.
If the chamber has to reschedule the parade because of inclement weather, Artherton said she would call all the entries, post updates on Facebook and inform the local media.
In 2013, the chamber rescheduled the parade from Dec. 7 to Dec. 20 because of heavy snow accumulation that reached close to a foot, coupled with light freezing rain.
Parade participants can pick up entry forms at the chamber office, 504 Main St. The entry forms are also at www.cassville.com.
