John J. Dabbs

John J. Dabbs, 93, of Rocky Comfort, passed away Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at National Health Care in Joplin.

He was born Aug. 20, 1923, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of John M. and Bessie Dabbs. He was united in marriage to Phyllis, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Paul Dabbs; and two sisters, Wyvona Duggar and Loraine Smith.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Ann Stuhlsatz and her husband, Ted, of Oak Grove, and Melissa Jane Hale and her husband, Danny, of Aurora; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He grew up and received his education at Rocky Comfort, where he graduated from high school. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from Aug. 4, 1943, to May 23, 1944. He was a self-employed carpenter. He had also been an over the road truck driver for many years. He attended Living Word Mission Church.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Living Word Mission Church at Simco. Pastor Billy Joe Gentry and Pastor Melvin Hap Anders will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Rocky Comfort Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under direction of McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
