Cassville season ends at Monett, 47-20

MONETT -- The Cassville football team's season ended Friday night with a 47-20 loss to Monett.

Cassville fumbled the opening kickoff and allowed the Cubs to drive 36 yards in six plays to take a 7-0 lead on a Zack Hammond 1-yard run with 9:48 left in the first.

Quincy Jackson doubled the lead with 2:09 left in the first with an 84-yard jaunt.

Cassville refused to quit and broke Monett's touchdown shutout streak with a 53-yard touchdown catch and run by Cade Pendergraft

Monett aided the Wildcats, equalizing score in the second period with a fumble at their own 5-yard line. Gabe Kirk plowed in from a yard out three plays later.

Cassville trailed 21-14 at intermission, but could get no closer in the second half.

Cassville coach Lance Parnell thanked his team, and especially his seniors, after the game.

"I might have shed a few tears on the sideline after the game with my seniors," he said. "I love those guys. They showed up to work each day and never complained. They were a great group to coach."

Cassville ends the season 6-5.
