Alleged attempt to meet 12-year-old girl results in charges

A Cassville man is facing charges of attempted statutory rape in an arrest in Purdy through a sting operations worked by the Purdy Police Department, Barry County Sheriff's Department and the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crime Task Force.

Charles Trevor Norman, 23, of Cassville, was arrested on Oct. 10. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.

According to Purdy Police Chief Jackie Lowe, a mother in Purdy discovered discovered sexually graphic text messages and nude photos on her 12-year-old daughter's iPod. Investigators determined several adult males had requested nude photos from the girl and sent nude photos of themselves to her iPod. One subject had made repeated attempts to meet the girl to engage in sex.

Lowe said officers contacted the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crime Task Force and set up a sting operation. As a result, Norman was arrested. Additional charges are pending, Lowe added.
