Barry-Lawrence Library reports growing customer activity

Top 10 books checked out in past year identified

Patrons of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library checked out 467,974 items between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014.

According to the library's annual report, the 45,452 registered cardholders checked out material 467,974 times, approximately $14 million worth of items, calculated by averaging the cost of checked out materials at $30 per items.

The library has 215,879 in its 10 branches. The report showed customers made 296,374 visits to the library. Each customer checked out 10.3 items in the past year, averaging out the numbers evenly. Customers also used library computers and the wireless Internet service 65,897 times.

The library staff of 44 received wages and benefits of $941,869 for the year. Supporting the library staff has been 431 volunteers, who provided 1,832 hours of service. The library receives 85 percent of its budget from property taxes, 6 percent from state funding, and about 9 percent from fines, fees, gifts, donations and book sales.

The 10 branches had the following activity:

* Monett, collection size 38,505 items, 96,049 checked out;

* Cassville, collection size 37,167 items, 89,321 checked out;

* Mt. Vernon, collection size 32,205 items, 84,923 checked out;

* Aurora, collection size 32,804 items, 73,965 checked out;

* Marionville, collection size 18,194 items, 33,352 checked out;

* Shell Knob, collection size 14,956 items, 23,352 checked out;

* Pierce City, collection size 17,696 items, 19,256 checked out;

* Miller, collection size 9,756 items, 17,135 checked out;

* Eagle Rock, collection size 6,197 items, 16,909 checked out;

* Purdy, collection size 8,398 items, 13,712 checked out.

The following books represented the 10 most circulated and requested books during the past year:

2. "Vampire Knight Vol. 1, " manga book by Matsuri Hino;

3. "Mistress" by James Patterson;

4. "Sycamore Row" by John Grisham;

5. "Catching Fire" (Hunger Games 2) by Suzanne Collins;

6. "Hunger Games" (1) by Suzanne Collins;

7. "The Heist" by Janet Evanovich;

8. "Mockingjay" (Hunger Games 3) by Suzanne Collins;

9. "Second Honeymoon" by James Patterson;

10. "Gone" by James Patterson.
