The annual Shell Knob Eagles Lodge Chili cook-off is aiming to raise money for charities and scholarships.

Lodge 4155, which is less than a mile north of the Shell Knob Post Office on Highway 39, will host the cook-off on Oct. 18. Judging is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 to sample each chili. Voting will be done by placing a ticket with a favorite entry.

The first-place winner receives $150. The second-place and third-place winners will also receive awards.

Their awards have yet to be determined, said Bill Richardson, the chairman of the chili cook-off.

All the proceeds will go toward scholarships for students in Shell Knob and charities, Richardson said.

A baked goods auction will be at 4 p.m. The Lodge will also have games and award prizes throughout the event. Chili may be purchased by the bowl. Refreshments and beverages will be available.

The cook-off applications provide the rules, which are available at the Lodge, or participants can request an application by writing to Eagles 4155, P.O. Box 203, Shell Knob, MO 65747. The entry fee is $25. Each check or money order can be made out to Eagles 4155. The deadline is Oct. 13.
