Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church hosting special speakers

The Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church will have special speakers on Sunday, with the morning service beginning at 10 a.m., with Bro. Ivan Faulkner, of Fayetteville, Ark., preaching at 11 a.m. The evening service will begin at 6 p.m. Dave Woods, of the Cassville Gideons Camp, will present the work the Gideons do worldwide, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church is located at 16722 Hwy. 248, about five miles east of Cassville. Jenkins sets date for 15th Annual Fish Fry and Auction

The Jenkins Fire Department will host its 15th Annual Fish Fry and Auction on Oct. 4 at Station No. 1, located on Highway 248 at the Flat Creek Bridge, the old highway department building. Music provided by Ripplin' Creek will begin at 4:30. A Serving of fish, chicken, baked beans, slaw, hush puppies, dessert and a drink will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m. The All-You-Can-Eat meal will cost $9 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under. The auction of donated items from area businesses and individuals will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for a quilt donated by Fern Mease will be sold, and the winner drawn, and there will be a 50-50 drawing. The annual event is sponsored by the association, which is the volunteer arm of the department. Those who are not able to fight fires can help fund raise to supply additional money to keep the department viable and well equipped. Frontier Day set for Saturday

The 2nd Annual Frontier Day will be held on Sept. 27 beginning at 10 a.m. Events will include: sorghum cookin', rope-making, apple butter, blacksmithing, dutch oven cookin', buggy rides, lye soap, live music and kettle corn. The event is free to the public and concessions and restrooms will be available. Frontier Day will be held on Highway 248, seven miles east of Cassville to Farm Road 1157, then left about 3/4 miles, or, west from Highway 39 seven miles on Highway 248 then right on Farm Road 1157. Washburn conducting sewer tests

The city of Washburn is conducting a smoke test of its sewer system no through Friday. The smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, has no odor and creates no fire hazards. The smoke should not enter a home unless it has defective plumbing or dried up drain traps. If anyone at a home or business suffers from respiratory issues and is immobile, they should notify city hall by calling 417-846-3203 or 417-846-5242. More information about the tests may be found in person at city hall.

SKITS puts out casting call

Shell Knob in the Spotlight is now casting for its third play, "You Can't Get There From Here," which will be presented Nov. 6-8. Auditions will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the Central Crossing Senior Center on Hwy. YY-15 in Shell Knob. Seven actors are needed for the following roles: Liz, in her late 50s; Myrtle, Liz's younger sister; Ann, Liz's and Myrtle's great nice and school teacher in her mid-20s; Arthur, a reporter; Queenie, a newspaper editor in her 40s; Dolores Van Damm, Aurthur's boss; and Horace McClintock, Dolores' chief in his early 50s. SKITS is also looking for a production crew, including backstage help, from stage manager to set builder and everything in between. Swap Meet and Craft Show coming to Seligman

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce will have a Swap Meet and Craft Show on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4. To get a booth space, people may call 417-662-3612 or 479-381-2133. Booth space is $30 for two days, inside or outside, and tables are available. Food concession will be provided. The event will be held at the Seligman Chamber Event Center on Highway 37 north.

Ducks Unlimited hosting member dinner on Oct. 11

Barry/Lawrence County Ducks Unlimited will hold its annual member dinner on Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church Parish Hall. A silent auction and social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., and dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. with live auction following. Tickets are $35 for a single, $50 for a couple and $15 for a Greenwing.
