MONETT -- The youth and inexperience of the Cassville Wildcats reared its ugly head in a 38-0 loss to Monett on Friday night.

Recent injuries cause the team to plug in several underclassmen into the starting lineup, the Wildcats struggled in every phase.

The first shot was fired on the opening kickoff when Monett senior Quincy Jackson returned it 75 yards just 11 seconds into the game.

The depleted Cassville defense struggled with the speed of the Cubs, yielding a touchdown run of 70 yards and touchdown throw of 40 yards.

Cassville's best drive of the night was ended by a Wesley Abramovitz interception. The Wildcats only crossed the Cubs' 40-yard line once.

To Cassville's credit, the defense played inspired ball in the second half, picking off a Monett pass deep in their territory and forcing another Cubs' fumble.

In the most telling stat, Cassville only had four plays that gained 8 or more yards and none over 10. Monett collected 15 plays of 10 or more yards against the black and gold.

The Wildcats travel to 5-0 Carl Junction on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
