Shakin' in the Shell events on tap Sept. 20

Family fun, entertainment planned

Organizers are finalizing details for the 9th annual Shakin' in the Shell Festival and Car Show, slated to kick off at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Chamber Park, formerly known as the Old Ball Park, 400 yards west of Highway 39 on Needles Eye Road.

The festivities include the 25th annual Classic and Custom Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Judging will be at 10 a.m., followed by the awards presentation at 3 p.m. A new category this year includes golf carts. To pre-register, call the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce at 417-858-3300.

The festival will feature music throughout the event, with the show finale performed by J Rock and the Third Street Band, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Concessions will include sliders, hot dogs, kettle corn, snow cones, cotton candy, a beer garden and more.

Over 50 vendors and crafts booths have registered for the event.

for the kids, there will be rides, inflatable bouncers, a climbing wall, pony rides, a jumping spider and laser tag from noon to 8 p.m. There will also be a free treasure hunt in the sandpile at 1 p.m.

A number of vintage tractors will be on display for the festival.

Once again, organizers are hosting the Ugly Dog Contest, as well as a new event -- Kiss the Pig. Those attending have the opportunity to contribute to the person they would most like to see kiss a swine at 1 p.m.

New to this year's event is the Little Miss and Mr. Shell Knob contest.
