Exeter hosting kindergarten screenings
Exeter Elementary School is hosting its kindergarten screenings on Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To set up an appointment, parents should call the elementary office at 417-835-2922. Parents should also bring a birth certificate, an immunization record, proof of residency and the child's Social Security number. Children must be five years old on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten. Children must be four years old on or before July 31 to enter pre-school.
Wheaton VFD sets date for annual barbecue
The Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department has set its annual barbecue for Saturday, Aug. 23 in Wheaton's city park. There will be free rides for children beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing throughout the day. Large tents will be set up for crafters. There will be no charge for the booth spaces, and anyone interested in a space may call Lindy Lombard at 417-652-7359 to reserve a spot. Grandstand entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon and evening until the annual duck race in the park at 8 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., The Black Moods will end the evening with a concert.
