Purdy to host Community Celebration

The Purdy Community Celebration will be held on July 3 in downtown Purdy at 6 p.m. Hot dog meals, including chips, baked beans and a drink, will be available for $3. All proceeds go to the fireworks show, which will begin at dark. Those who attend should bring lawn chairs. Musical entertainment will be provided by Plymouth Junction, followed by Flyin' Buzzards and Ozark Mountain Revival.

Pie Contest to be held July 19

The GFWC Silver Leaf Benefit Club will host the 2nd Annual Barry County Pie Contest on July 19 beginning at 8 a.m. Viewing will be from 8-10 a.m. and winners will be announced at 11 a.m. on the courthouse steps. After judging, pies will be auctioned with proceeds going toward a college scholarship for a local student. Pies must be made with berries or fruits, and mixed berry or mixed fruit pies are not allowed. Pies must be baked in aluminum foil pans and be turned in no later than 8 a.m. on July 19 at the Barry County Courthouse. Ribbons will be awarded for first through third place, and a trophy will be awarded to the Best of Show pie. PA candidates to participate in forum July 10

The Ozark Property Rights Alliance will host a candidate forum, on July 10 at 7 p.m. at the Crowder Community Center in Cassville, for the prosecuting attorney candidates, all three of which have agreed to participate.

Road districts to host meetings

The Mineral Springs and Corsicana road districts will host meetings next week.

The Corsicana Special Road District will meet on July 8 at 7 p.m. at the community building in Purdy. The Mineral Springs Road District will meet on July 10 at 5:30 p.m. at the district road barn.

Wheaton VFD sets date for annual barbecue

The Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department has set its annual barbecue for Saturday, Aug. 23 in Wheaton's city park. There will be free rides for children beginning at 1 p.m. and continuing throughout the day. Large tents will be set up for crafters. There will be no charge for the booth spaces, and anyone interested in a space may call Lindy Lombard at 417-652-7359 to reserve a spot. Grandstand entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon and evening until the annual duck race in the park at 8 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., The Black Moods will end the evening with a concert. More information will be available later, and anyone with questions may call Lombard.

Signups for School Readiness Fair ongoing

Signups for the Annual School Readiness Fair are being taken at the OACAC Barry County Neighborhood Center until July 3. Pre-registration is required, and people should call 417-847-2140 for an appointment. Social Security cards are required for each member of the household. The School Readiness Fair will be held on Aug. 2 at the Family Life Center.

CHS graduation DVDs now available

The Cassville High School Class of 2014 Graduation DVDs are now available for purchase through the high school office for $5 each. For more information, call the high school at 417-847-3137.
