Turnout strong for CHS cross country
Program starting summer workouts with large numbers
Chris Shore, Cassville cross-country coach, has plenty of reasons to smile this summer, but the biggest is the renewed interest in the XC program.
"We had over 50 show up to our middle school to high school summer program," Shore said. "Things are looking up. We had a large group of runners last season and this year's group is even bigger."
Shore is not sure why there is such a large turnout, and he just chalked it up to the peaks and valleys of running a program year in and year out.
Shore said he has the athletes started in the process of building up more miles before the start of fall practices.
"Starting July 1, we are going to have a camp and we will continue to stress the need of training," Shore said. "We want them to get as many miles under their feet as they can this summer."
Shore anticipates that he will have enough runners to field full varsity teams this fall.
