Flossie Spain, 96, of Cassville, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield. She was born on Aug. 15, 1917, daughter of Albert and Sadie (Hooten) Nickols, in Purdy. She graduated from Purdy High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to Erston Spain on June 6, 1935; he preceded her in death. She was a member of the New Life Freewill Baptist in Monett.
Survivors include: three sons, Bill Spain, of Salina, Kan., Rex Spain and his wife, Kathie, of Joplin, and Wendell Spain and his wife, Rosa Lee, of Springfield; one daughter, Deloris Box, of Cassville; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Woods, of Downey, Calif., and Juanita Langford, of Monett.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Irvin Dale Spain. and Norma Ruth Shepherd; four brothers, John Nickols, Loren Nickols, Lee Nickols, and Paul Nickols; and three sisters, Opal Reed, Margie Rhea, and Effie Olson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory, with Pastor Dennis Burge and Pastor Larry Wormington officiating. Burial followed at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and entrusted to the White Funeral Home, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, MO 65625.
