A Cassville police officer was involved in an incident on Old Exeter Road Tuesday morning resulting in a man being shot and killed.
Dana Kammerlohr, Cassville police chief, said at about 7:30 a.m., the Cassville Police Department responded to a 911 call at 600 Old Exeter Road for a disturbance.
According to Kammerlohr, there was an altercation between the responding officer and the suspect when the officer arrived, and the suspect allegedly assaulted the officer with a pipe. This led the officer to shoot the suspect, who was transported to a hospital in Springfield and died as a result of his injuries.
The officer was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cassville, where he was treated minor injuries as a result of the assault, and has been released.
The officer, whose name is not being released at this time, has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an investigation being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Barry County Sheriff's Department.
The name of the suspect is also not being released, as officials are working to inform the family of the incident.
