Cassville reading program to Celebrate Science; Library hosts summer reading for all ages

The Barry-Lawrence Regional Library has a full lineup of programs for pre-school through adult patrons with its summer reading program, Fizz, Boom, Read.

Pre-school children will discover the basics with story time, starting with Color Fun, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12. The next program, In the Treetops, will take place at 10 a.m. on June 26.

Zing, Bang, Boom, an explosion of music and sound, will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10. The program concludes with Make a Splash, at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24.

The teen summer reading club program, Spark a Reaction, kicked off 2 p.m., Tuesday with martial arts by Trey Tredwell. Firefighter Kirk Wynns will present Sparks at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 17.

Bob Ball will present Digital Photography at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 1. The program concludes with Computer Building Basics at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, with Henry Hardaway.

The children's program, Fizz, Boom, Read, will kick off with the program Animal Myth Busters, with personnel from Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield. All programs will be held at 3:30 p.m., beginning June 5 and continuing through July 31.

Special guest Ronald McDonald will present It's Book Time on June 12 and Kent Williams will present Science Rocks June 19.

It's Alive, with Jacqueline Howell of Missouri Extension, will be presented Thursday, June 26, followed by The Discovery Center and Goopy, Slimy, Bubbly Stuff on Thursday, July 3.

Summer reading program participants will have the opportunity to enjoy Quirkles, the author and science team, demonstrate fun and easy science experiments for kids on Thursday, July 10.

The program winds up with Libby, the Scientist on July 17; a pool party at Cassville Aquatic Center on July 24 and Mad Science Lab: Spin, POp, Boom, on July 31.

The adult program, Literary Elements, kicks off at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, with a presentation on beef cattle by Eldon Cole, University of Missouri Extension specialist. Trivia night will follow at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 10.

Organic Pest Control, with Jon Toombs of Homestead Farms, is slated for 7 p.m., Thursday, June 12.

It's adult night at the movies, with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, at 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 17. A family-friendly Bingo night is slated for 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 24.

Tom McGinnis, a knife-maker, will demonstrate his craft at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, followed by another trivia night at 6 p.m. on July 8.

Cathy and Joe Wolven, Master Gardeners, will present Food in a Jar at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 10.

The program winds up with cake decorating demonstrations by Donna Lunsford and Jenifer Miller at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 22 and family Bingo night at 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 29.
