Local 8th graders visit Scott Tech; Students participate in activities, explore career paths
Eighth grade students from Purdy, Verona and Billings visited the Scott Regional Technology Center (Scott Tech) in Monett on Monday.
The purpose of the trip was career exploration and to in-form students of the opportunities available at Scott Tech.
According to Mrs. Reppert, student career advisor, "It is important for students to be aware of their options now; as eighth graders, they will develop a Personal Plan of Study outlining their high school courses."
While at Scott Tech, students participated in activities learning about personalities and how important it is to consider their personality when choosing a career. They also utilized technology to identify tools used in industry and the Scott Tech programs.
As well as the admission requirements for Scott Tech, eighth graders were made aware of the many careers in which SRTC prepares students.
As juniors and seniors, the sending High Schools will pay for several of their students to enroll at Scott Tech in one of 14 programs. This is an opportunity for students to earn workplace credentials and college credit.
"The tour is an integral part of helping our students plan their high school courses to prepare them for a career," said Katie Whitehead, Billings counselor. "This is a great opportunity for kids to have fun and think about the future."
