SKITS performers bring entertainment to Shell Knob

Shell Knob In The Spotlight is gearing up for a new play.

"Dogsbreath Deveraux: The Dastardly Doctor" by Billy St. John will be performed on June 21-22 at the Central Community Methodist Church in Shell Knob.

Auditions were held May 3-4 for the show, and the cast will be rehearsing three times per week until the show begins.

Carol Webb, co-founder of SKITS, said that the play will be a comedy and a melodrama.

"It's a very funny read," Webb said, "I can only imagine how it will be on stage."

Webb said the last play that SKITS performed was a comedy, and it went over well in Shell Knob, influencing the SKITS board of directors to choose a play that was a comedy and a melodrama.

The plot features Dr. Dogsbreath Deveraux, who plans to marry and kill Widow Lotta Cash to gain her fortune. He enlists the help of a nurse who he promises to marry after disposing of Lotta. Jealousy and problems arise in the clinic of wacky patients and it is up to the heroine to save them all.

Webb said that tickets are not yet on sale, but they will be at the end of May. Tickets can be purchased at local businesses or by calling SKITS. Adult tickets will be $5 and children will be $3.

Webb said SKITS can still use volunteers for the play. Anyone interested in being a part of the program can call 417-499-4551.
