Principal says goodbye to Purdy schools
Wife's death plays major role in departure
Purdy school officials bid an emotional farewell to principal Jeff Swadley this week.
Swadley, who served as a district administrator since 2004, has accepted the position as principal at Cassville High School for the coming year.
Attending his last board meeting in Purdy, Swadley received a card from the board and a cake that read, "Thanks for the memories."
When pressed to speak, Swadley said the death of his wife, Angie, at age 44 on April 20, 2013, played a major role in his decision.
"I always thought I would retire from here," Swadley said tearfully. "I love this place with all my heart. But, I go home and I see her, and I come here and I see her.
"If I'm going to be able to live without her, I have to go find out who I am again without her. I've just got to get away. I'm not unhappy with this place. This will always be my home."
The Swadley family presented the second annual Angie Swadley Memorial Scholarship during the Purdy High School awards assembly earlier this month. The second annual Angie Swadley Memorial 5K Run will be held on July 19 during the third annual Purdy Festival.
