Cinderella story continues for Wildcats
It will be an all-Barry County district title game as the Cassville Wildcats and Monett Cubs tangle for the Class 4, District 11 Championship tonight (Wednesday) at North Park in Monett.
In improbable fashion, the Wildcats erased a 5-2 deficit with six runs in the top of the seventh inning, all coming with one out.
"Wow, is all I can say," said Kyle Wood, Cassville coach. "These boys were so clutch tonight and never quit. We are still playing and that's what matters. "
The Wildcats had missed several opportunities earlier in the game, loading the bases in the second and third innings, but only mustering one run.
Carl Junction, the district's top-seed, scored twice in the first and once in the second to build a 3-0 cushion.
"We kept battling and that is what I told the guys," Wood said. "I'm pumped, they're pumped but we still have more work to do."
First pitch for the championship is set for 5 p.m.
