Weatherman bound for college diamond
Standout Cassville catcher heads to Missouri Valley
Cassville coach Kyle Wood didn't have to think very hard to describe his catcher Marcus Weatherman and his playing ability.
"Marcus is a beyond average defensive player," Wood said. "In the eight years I have been here, he's the best I've seen, not just at Cassville but in the Big 8 Conference."
Weatherman fulfilled one of his goals to attend college when he recently signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Missouri Valley College in Marshall.
"Most guys take pride in the glory positions, being a pitcher or big hitter," Wood said. "Marcus is a guy who takes great pride in his defensive skill. He enjoys catching and he works hard to stay sharp."
Weatherman has gunned down 13-would be base stealers and gives the Wildcats a defensive edge with his ability to snap throw to any base.
For his efforts, he was named the 2012-13 Big 8 first team all-conference and all district catcher, as well at the team's Most Valuable Player.
This season, he is hitting .333 with 17 RBI and has a 1.96 ERA on the mound.
"The greatest thing I can say about him is that he is a selfless player," Wood said. "He will do anything and everything to help the team win."
Weatherman is the son of Wade and Cheri Graves, of Cassville.
