Exeter to host city-wide yard sale, clean-up day

The city of Exeter is hosting its annual city-wide yard sale on May 3, and anyone interested in participating may visit city hall or call 417-835-2823.

There is no fee to participate, and a list of sales and addresses will be available at city hall. Following the yard sale, the city will host its annual clean-up day on May 6. To arrange pickup of appliances or televisions, people may call city hall.

Senior Center hosting Mother's Day Lunch

The Cassville Senior Center will host a Mother's Day Lunch on May 9 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event will feature a special dessert table with a chocolate fountain, as well as a number of door prizes. The center is located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville, and for more information, people may call 417-847-4510.

Southwest R-5 Jazz Band wins awards

The Southwest R-5 Jazz Band recently took a 1-rating at the music festival at NEO A&M College in Miami, Okla. The 27-member band received superior and excellent comments from judges, and trumpeter Cory Ball, tenor sax player Zach Miles and alto sax player Shasta Sanders were each recognized as outstanding soloists. The beginning band of students in grades 6-8 also received a 1-rating.

CHS ag department, FFA to host plant sale

The Cassville Agriculture Department and FFA chapter will be hosting its greenhouse plant sale from April 30 to May 2, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the greenhouse on the back side of the Cassville High School campus.

A variety of bedding plants, tomato and pepper plants, and hanging baskets are for sale. For more information, people may contact Kelin Kruse at 417-847-3137.

FBC hosting National Day of Prayer breakfast

The First Baptist Church in Cassville is hosting a National Day of Prayer breakfast on May 1, with doors opening at 6:30 a.m. and a prayer service from 7-8 a.m. The featured speaker is Ed Moore, founder and director of Prayer Force One.

A continental breakfast will be offered, and an $8 donation or more is required to offset costs. For more information, people may call 903-436-5410. All proceeds benefit the Cassville Ministerial Alliance.

Cassville Senior Center collecting garage sale items

The Cassville Senior Center is collecting items for its semi-annual garage sale. Donated items may be dropped off at the center, located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. All proceeds from the upcoming garage sale will benefit the center. Large and small, gently-used items will be accepted.

Cassville Chamber has new hours

The Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce will have new hours effective May 5. The new office hours will be 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Crowder hosting Common Core talk

Mary Byrne, who has a master's in education, will discuss the Common Core Curriculum and its impact on education, assessments, data collection and students during a talk at 7 p.m. on May 9 at The Watley Center on the Crowder College campus in Cassville.

D.A.R.E. Buddy Bass Tournament date set

The Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education group, also known as D.A.R.E., will host the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament on April 26 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Fair Marina on Table Rock Lake.

Fees are $50 per boat, with a 70 percent payback, and $10 for an optional big bass, with 100 percent payback. Early entries will be accepted at the Marina leading up to the event. Entries may be mailed to Cape Fair Marina, 142 Sturgis Lane, Reeds Spring, MO 65737.
