CHS Band, Winter Guard compete in Springfield, Joplin

Winter Guard receives 'Excellent' rating, soloists earn 1-ratings

The Cassville High School Band recently competed in a number of festivals, including the Mid-Continent Color Guard Association Winter Championships, held in Springfield, and the Missouri State High School Activities Association District Music Festival, held in Joplin at Missouri Southern State University.

In Springfield, the CHS Winter Guard received an "excellent" rating for its championship performance, competing at Kickapoo High School against other Winter Guards from across the state in classes based on experience and activity.

The Cassville High School Band recently competed in the Missouri State High School Activities Association District Music Festival, held in Joplin at Missouri Southern State University, with nine members earning a 1-rating and nine members earning a 2-rating. In Joplin, band members prepared solos and small ensembles, with nine students earning the highest honor of a 1-rating. The band also had nine students who received a 2-rating.

Soloists earning the 1-rating included: Stussy Stephenson, tuba solo; Bryton McCowan, trumpet solo; Shannon Reidlinger, clarinet solo; Triston Taylor, baritone solo; Krissy Albert, oboe solo; and Olivia Padilla, flute solo. Ensembles with 1-ratings included: Lindsay Lawson, Samantha Groth and Albert for woodwind trio; and Stephenson, Will Edmondson and Taylor for low brass trio.

Soloists earning a 2-rating included: Edmonson, tuba solo; Kristen Cox, trumpet solo; Zack Boley, trumpet solo; Savannah Williamson, flute solo; Maddie Mason, clarinet solo; Macey Parsons, flute solo; Tawnie Nelson, flute solo; and Kassie Moore, French horn solo. The group of Padilla, Williamson and Parsons also received a 2-rating in flute trio.
