The Democrat gears up for Easter Egg Hunt

The Cassville Democrat second annual Easter Egg Hunt contest is published in today's edition. Eight Easter Eggs are hidden throughout the edition for a chance to win a basket full of goodies donated by contest sponsors. An egg hunt entry form is included on the contest page and must be mailed or dropped off to the Cassville Democrat's office. Entries should be addressed to Cassville Democrat, Easter Egg Hunt, P.O. Box 486, Cassville, MO 65625. The office is located at 600 Main St. All entries must be submitted by Friday, April 18. The winner's picture will be published in a future edition.

Cassville Cruisers to host first Cruise-In of year

The Cassville Cruisers car club will host its first Cruise-In of the year on April 12 from 5 p.m. to dusk at the Barry County Museum. Cruise-Ins are held on the second Saturday of each month through November, and concessions will be provided by Cassville Boy Scout Troop No. 185.

Easter Bunny to visit Eagle Rock Library

The Easter Bunny will be at the Eagle Rock Library on April 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents may bring cameras and take photos of their children with the Easter Bunny. The Friends of the Library will also host a dollar-menu lunch throughout the event. An Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Eagle Rock Friends of the Library, All Faith Methodist Church and Eagle Rock Community Association, will begin at 11 a.m.

KTTS meteorologist to speak at Cassville

KTTS meteorologist Ted Keller will give a presentation to the Adult Agriculture Class on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. The class is offered by the Cassville High School Agriculture Department, and Keller will cover topics including severe storms and tornadoes. He will also cover weather safety as the Ozarks moves into active spring and summer weather conditions. Cassville hosting kindergarten enrollment

The Cassville R-4 School District will host kindergarten enrollment on April 10, from noon to 5 p.m., and April 11, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Primary School. Parents of children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 1, 2014, should bring the following to complete enrollment: birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, proof of residency (in the form of a utility bill with name and address, real estate contract, rental agreement, etc.) and parent identification. Wheaton Schools kindergarten screenings

Screening for children entering Preschool for the 2014-15 school year in the Wheaton R-3 School District is scheduled for April 15 and April 16 in the Kindergarten rooms of the Elementary Building. Children must be 3 years of age by July 31, 2014, and parents may call 417-652-7240, ext. 842, to schedule an appointment. If a child was not screened for the incoming kindergarten class, he or she may have that done at this time also. The DIAL III test will be used to screen children in the following areas: concepts, language, and motor development. In addition to the DIAL III, each child's vision, hearing and articulation will be screened. The screening will take at least one hour to complete. Parents should bring the child's birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, and proof of residency. Screening results will be shared with the parents.

MU Extension hosting gardening class

On April 10 at 7 p.m., in the Cassville Branch Library meeting room, the Missouri University Extension will host a gardening class with the subject: "Pick the right flowers." The class focuses on heat and drought tolerant best choices, annuals and perennials. It will be taught by Kathryn Kufahl, a member of the Master Gardeners of the Ozarks.

Haven of the Ozarks hosts Obedience classes

Haven of the Ozarks will host Dog Obedience classes, which are being taught by Tristan Jolivetter, a professional trainer. Classes are held each Saturday, with a beginner class at 1 p.m. and an intermediate class at 2 p.m. Each class lasts one hour, and those interested may call the Haven at 417-569-6176. Classes are held in the Barbara Williams Training Center at Haven of the Ozarks, located one mile west of Cassville on Highway 86, with signs directing the rest of the way.

D.A.R.E. Buddy Bass Tournament date set

The Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education group, also known as D.A.R.E., will host the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament on April 26 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cape Fair Marina on Table Rock Lake. Fees are $50 per boat, with a 70 percent payback, and $10 for an optional big bass, with 100 percent payback. Early entries will be accepted at the Marina leading up to the event.
