Nelva Jean Barrett

Nelva Jean Barrett, 82, of Shell Knob, passed away in her home on Sunday, March 30, 2014. She was born on Sept. 18, 1931, daughter of Walden and Lucille (Benjamin) Martin, in St. Louis. She was a graduate of Normandy High School in St. Louis. On Sept. 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to William "Ed" Barrett in St. Louis. In 1980, she and William moved to Shell Knob to make their home.

Survivors include: her husband of 58 years, Ed Barrett, of Shell Knob; one son, Eddie Barrett, III, of Shell Knob; two daughters, Doris Carothers and her husband, Rick, of Pittsburg, Mo., and Dawn Long and her husband, Lance, of Cassville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Peggy Weckle, of St. Petersburg, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, and one brother, Arthur Martin.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the White Funeral Home and Crematory. Immediate cremation to follow.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville.
