Judith Ann "Judy" Schardein, 73 of Shell Knob, passed away Saturday, March 22, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield.

She was born Aug. 19, 1940, in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of G. Paul and Edna Mae (Bennett) Kirby who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: her husband of 52 years, Max L. Schardein; one daughter, Andrea Geddes-Lundeen of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Bradley and his wife, Susan Schardein, of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Timothy and his wife, Lynn Schardein, of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; one sister, Paula Ruth Adkins, of Clinton, Iowa; and six grandchildren.

In 1958, she graduated from El Dorado High School, and later attended the University of Kansas. She graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, with her bachelor's degree in education. She then received her master's degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.

She taught school for over 20 years in Bettendorf Community Schools, Bettendorf, Iowa.

In 2008, they retired to Shell Knob. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Shell Knob where she sang in the choir and served on the worship team.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Shell Knob.
