Drug Court, FBC to host Abundant Blessings Tea
Event raises funds for operation of Barry County Drug Court
In years past, tables at the Abundant Blessings Tea have been decked out with everything from Legos to quilts, and Harley Davidson merchandise to a grandmother's elegant fine China.
This year, Marty Stearns, Drug Court coordinator, is excited to see what hostesses will use for decorations at the 3rd Abundant Blessings Tea, to be held at First Baptist Church's Family Life Center in Cassville on April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
"My favorite thing about the tea is the showing of what Drug Court is, and seeing the community getting involved," she said.
Stearns, along with Jackie Hendrix, missions director at First Baptist Church, are organizing the third Abundant Blessings Tea, a Drug Court fundraiser occurring every two years, alternating with the golf tournament.
"All the proceeds will benefit Drug Court," Stearns said. "They will not be used for participants' fees, but they will be used for things like graduations; trainings; family needs, like diapers or medications; and incentives, like movie passes or gift cards to Walmart, Subway or Sonic. We also use a little bit to kick start the fundraiser in the next year."
Stearns said the all-ladies tea will feature a number of different kinds of teas and coffees, along with tea-type food, like crumpets and crackers.
"The special guest speaker will be Peggy Davis, Greene County Drug Court commissioner and member of the board of directors of the Missouri Association of Drug Court Professionals, Stearns said. "There will also be one of our drug court participants speaking and sharing her story."
Stearns said the event has about 24 tables, with eight people seated at each table. She said there are still 30 tickets available, each at a cost of $15. Ticket sales end on March 30.
