Jabben began training this week at Roaring River

Sgt. Steve Jabben with the Barry County Sheriff's Office has accepted a position with the Missouri State Park Rangers at Roaring River State Park.

Jabben's last day with the sheriff's department was March 13, and he began training with the Park Rangers on March 17.

Jabben said he is very excited to be the next Park Ranger at Roaring River.

Originally from southeast Kansas, Jabben has been coming to Roaring River with his family since before he could walk. His parents and grandparents have also been life-long fishing and camping enthusiasts in the park.

Jabben said he moved to Barry County in 1999 because he wanted to live closer to the park.

He has been involved in law enforcement since graduating from the academy in 2001 at Missouri Southern State University.

Jabben lives in Shell Knob with his wife, Carrie.
