Man arrested for DWI near Shell Knob Elementary
38-year-old nearly hit vehicle, swerved into nearby ditch
A Shell Knob man was arrested Thursday for driving while intoxicated in an incident that occurred near Shell Knob Elementary School.
Wyatt Phipps, 38, of Shell Knob, was allegedly driving while intoxicated near the school at about 4:30 p.m. when he nearly hit a vehicle head-on, but swerved into a nearby ditch.
"He was very intoxicated and could have hit the kids or one of the busses pulling out," Epperly said. "I just happened to be driving by when he went into the ditch."
Phipps was released from the Barry County jail at 12:47 p.m. today. He was held at the jail for nearly 20 hours, as Epperly said it required three 6-hour detox holds for Phipps to regain sobriety. Epperly said it is not Phipps' first driving while intoxicated charge.
Phipps is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and driving on a revoked license, both misdemeanor charges, and will appear in associate court on May 6 at 8:30 a.m.
