Lady Wildcats focus on summer training
District effort encouraging for head coach
Cassville Lady Wildcats Head Coach Chris Shore entered Saturday's district basketball match with Aurora with hopes of being competitive.
Even though the Lady Wildcats fell short of the ultimate goal of winning, dropping the contest, 46-39, they did show the fight Shore was looking for.
"I thought we battled and showed a lot of heart tonight," Shore said. "We know we still have a ways to go to get to where we want to be, but we are on the right track."
The Lady Wildcats will lose one senior in Katelyn Pitts.
"Katelyn came a long ways in her development since her freshman season," Shore said. "She was a great team player, never gave up and gave max effort. She always wanted to win."
The Lady Wildcats gave a glimpse of what is possible next season with their effort against Aurora.
Cassville trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter a 24-22 at halftime.
"We hit a wall in the third period," Shore said. "We got the defensive stops we needed, but we couldn't score."
Shooting will be a point of emphasis for the Lady Wildcats this season.
"We have got to develop more shooters," Shore said. "I am excited about our incoming freshman class and our returning players. I think we have a good future."
