James E. Britton, 80, of Pierce City, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014. He was born to Sam and Anna Mae Britton in Bayville, N.J.
Survivors include: his wife, Susan Darlene Britton; his children, James, Jr. (Nina) Britton, David Britton, Colleen Britton, Kelly Britton Flaherty, Winifred (Tom) Garrett, Darlene (George Rogers) Gregory, Douglas (Petra) Burrell, Robert (Lynn) Burrell, Donna O'Hagan and Sean (Denise) Burrell; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Sam (Lillian) Britton.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Berkeley Township, N.J. Police Department as a Lieutenant, and was the founding father of the Berkeley Township Police Benevolent Association. He was a Mason with Harmony Lodge #18 AF&AM. And he was a member of the American Legion Post #1029 and V.F.W. Post #9503 of Bayville, NJ.
In 1996, he and Darlene moved to Purdy. A celebration of his life was held on Friday at his farm.
Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
