Roaring River Opening Day requires helpers to hand out free coffee, mugs

The Cassville Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers to help hand out free coffee during Opening Day at Roaring River State Park, slated for March 1.

Mindi Artherton, director of the chamber, said it needs 20 to 25 volunteers to help distribute 1,000 free cups of coffee.

"We usually only do 750 cups, but with this year's opening day being on a Saturday, we're anticipating a larger crowd," she said.

Artherton said two brewmasters begin making the 100 to 120 gallons of coffee at about 3:30 a.m to 4 a.m., and she hopes to have all of it distributed, on a first come, first served basis, by about 6 a.m.

Walmart has donated a dozen containers of Folgers River Blend coffee, which will be brewed in a giant water tank heated by propane.

The 1,000 people who get the free coffee, along with each volunteer, will get to keep the mug it is served in.

"We like to give the mugs away to people so later in the year, they can look at it and remember us by seeing Cassville," she said.

Volunteers will meet under the Ford tent across from the old lodge no later than 4:30 a.m.

To become a volunteer, people may call Artherton at 417-847-2814.
